Soleil Delgadillo is a 2009 Bruin alumnus who did not let her journey with service end at UCLA. Soleil’s experience with youth and education paved the way to a career and life dedicated to service. While at UCLA, she participated in several programs that promote higher education to underserved communities. The 2015 Special Olympics World Games will be the largest sporting and humanitarian event to hit Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games. The event’s honorary co-chairs include President and First Lady Obama; Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Governor Jerry Brown will serve as hosts. Past Special Olympics supporters include Bill Clinton, Bono, Collin Farrell, Vanessa Williams, Yao Ming and Muhammad Ali. Not only will the city of Los Angeles be responsible for hosting the week-long event with over 500,000 spectators, the UCLA campus itself will be the dedicated venue for several sports. –› Read More
The UCLA Volunteer Center Fellows are proud to award Project Working for Immigrant Literacy Development (Project WILD) with the Winter 2015 Mongelli Award for Excellence and Civic Engagement. Project WILD is a student run community service organization in the USAC Community Service Commission that provides free, weekly English tutoring and mentorship services to students grades 2– 5 in the Garvey and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. –› Read More
