On Monday, January 21, 2013, a UCLA campus holiday, a bus full of enthusiastic Bruins loaded up and set out to serve in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This is just one of the many One Bus, One Cause events that the UCLA Volunteer Center organizes each quarter. About 50 students, staff, and alumni traveled to Belmont High School to team up with City Year Los Angeles, a program in which individuals donate a year of their time to help strengthen the Los Angeles community. Together they painted murals, livening up the once dull school walls in hopes of stimulating higher levels of learning. The well-organized program proved to be both rewarding and fun for those involved. Check out the pictures below to see the beautiful work that our Bruins accomplished! If you are interested in future One Bus, One Cause events, check out the UCLA Volunteer Center website for more details.
The plan for UCLA’s mural before any work was started!
All of the paint needed to get the mural done. Project Leader Dominique from City Year helped to keep everyone organized and distribute the paint. No spills!
