The Westwood Village Farmers’ Market is a Certified Farmers’ Market with a “farmer first’ philosophy. Thursdays from 12-5pm, the market brings together sustainable California farms, local artisans, musicians and community members. The market has a sister nonprofit, Sprouts of Promise. Sprouts of Promise is a 501(c)(3) that educates children and families on the importance of fresh fruits and vegetables and gives food-insecure individuals access to locally grown produce.
Our internships and volunteer opportunities are as follows:
Internships:
* Market Ambassador:
Attend local community/university events to promote the programs of Sprouts of Promise and the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market. Speak publicly, post flyers, recruit volunteers, network with similar food-focused organizations. This internship culminates with the planning and execution of one unique in-market event. Minimum of 2 community events per month (6 month commitment). Work days and times will vary depending on event and task.
* Market Curriculum Developer:
Develop market-based local food curriculum (market scavenger hunts, games and crafts) for educational market Kid Zone activities. Preferred commitment of 4 hours per week for 4 months.
Volunteer Positions:
* Social Media Volunteer:
Develop content for the Sprouts of Promise website and social media platforms. Activities include interviewing farmers in the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market, writing blog posts, taking in-market photographs, researching food trends, and connecting with food bloggers and local social media influencers. At home and in market. Commitment of 1.5 hours weekly for 10 weeks.
* Photography Volunteer:
Take photos at the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market and at Sprouts of Promise in-market and off-site events! Your photos will be used to promote Sprouts of Promise’s programs on our website, social media platforms and on marketing displays. Prefer a minimum commitment of 2 shifts per month for six months, but will consider alternative schedules.
* Information Booth Volunteer:
Serve as a market liaison, answering customer questions, providing farmers’ market tours, and promoting Sprouts of Promise programs and events. Prefer a minimum commitment of 2 shifts per month for six months.
* Youth Education Volunteer:
Follows Market-based curriculum, teaching children the importance of fruits, vegetables and sustainable agriculture through games, crafts and scavenger hunts. Minimum commitment of one shift per month for 3 months.
In addition to these positions, we are open to tailoring volunteer positions to meet your interests!
