The UCLA Hypertension Pilot Study is seeking undergraduate students to volunteer in conducting our research project. Our intervention aims to help participants with high blood pressure maintain better blood pressure control and prevent serious complications like heart attacks and strokes. Participants are principally Latino and African-American. Volunteers are needed to assist Study Staff to:
– Recruit study subjects
– Administer verbal consent of study participants
– Measure study participants’ blood pressure
– Schedule study participants for follow-ups
– Accurately record blood pressure data
– Perform clerical duties such as organizing and preparing study materials
This is a great opportunity to engage in community field work, gain clinical research experience, and work with UCLA medical school faculty. Students interested in a career in medicine, nursing, or public health are especially encouraged to participate, but all applicants are welcome.
Research activities occur at two clinics: 1)Williams: 808 West 58th St. Los Angeles and 2)Compton: 2115 North Wilmington Ave.
We are looking for students who are fluent in Spanish and can commit their time for a minimum of one quarter for at least a one 4-hour shift per week. The clinics are open Monday through Friday.
