826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. We provide a variety of free programming for students ages 6–18, designed to challenge and enchant while strengthening writing skills.
826LA is looking for volunteers to support our Field Trip and Journalism programs.
Field Trips at 826LA support teacher curriculum and student learning by offering a safe, creative, and nurturing space for students, where both imaginative learning and standards-based skill reinforcement take place. In a few short hours, students brainstorm, write, edit their work, and leave with something tangible—a bound book or a revised essay—and a renewed confidence in their ability to read, write, and inspire.
Viva Mar Vista is 826LA’s quarterly newspaper entirely written by our students and distributed throughout the community. Students will become journalists during this seven session workshop as they brainstorm, research, write, and edit their own articles. We’ll celebrate the publication of their newspaper at the end of the seven weeks with a release party!
