Volunteer Needs for Food Forward’s Farmers Market Recovery Program

December 13th, 2012

Food Forward’s Farmer’s Market Recovery Program is looking for passionate food advocates to join our volunteer powered Glean Team. Since our program’s launch in August, we’ve collected nearly 50,000 pounds to feed Angelenos who need it the most at the Santa Monica, Studio City, and Hollywood markets.

How we do it:

We arrive at the market and issue collection boxes to the farmers. The farmers fill the boxes with their unsold produce. At the end of the market we collect the boxes and distribute to our hunger relief receiving agencies on-site at the market.

About Food Forward: Our mission is to reconnect people with people – through food – by bringing together volunteers and neighbors to share in the gleaning and distributing of locally grown food from private homes and public spaces, which is then used to help feed Southern California’s most vulnerable. We also aim to tap into an awareness and consciousness of sustainability and community building, and to become a voice on Southern California’s edible landscape around food security and food justice issues.
