ABOUT US:
The Academy Project is building an innovative education engagement model that provides consistency, stability, and support beginning with 7th grade foster youth in Los Angeles, CA. Unlike many programs, our target audience is those most at risk of not completing their high school diploma (as opposed to those demonstrating the most potential).
Engagement begins prior to the start of the school year, during a summer program Camp Xavier. Our Camp is designed to inspire, educate, and prepare the twenty incoming members for their participation in The Co-Op, our afterschool program. The student’s will attend 5 days of day camp, where they will have the opportunity to participate in activities such as arts & crafts, sports, photography and drama, to name a few.
Our ultimate aim is to take accountability for our student’s grade 7 – 12 educational experience in totality. We’re working towards launching a full-time pilot program in 2018. Our intent is to extend our principle into the school day, to expedite remediation and support services, and to build a stronger community for attendees.
