Volunteer and Surf in the Caribbean Islands of Panama

January 1st, 1970

Location: Bocas Del Toro, Panama
Duration: Single Day
Date: Jan 1, 1970

Give and Surf empowers Bahia Honda through community and educational development.
r
r We are volunteer organization located in the islands Bocas del Toro, Panama and serve an indigenous community of Ngobe Indians through a preschool, after-school program, adult english classes, and sports programs.
r
r So you have more information on our volunteer programs you should expect to be involved in our preschool for the indigenous children three days a week (approx 20 children 3-5 yrs old), an after school program for the elementary school children two days a week(focused on their studies, english, and activities), adult english classes two days a week, weekly baseball practice, and possible construction projects. Past construction projects have included a playground and water tank installations. You can learn more about these programs by visiting http://giveandsurf.org/give-programs/.
r
r The indigenous people we serve live in the mangrove forests in thatched huts, survive off subsistence living, and travel around the bay in dugout canoes. Bahia Honda is a small and intimate community of 200 Ngobe Indians who live primitive and simple lives. The nice thing for volunteers is the community exists only twenty minutes from town where you can find a number of great restaurants, shops, and things to do. Your accommodations depend on the length of stay. For volunteers of a month or more your stay is at our volunteer house in Bahia Honda. It is a wonderful house on its own island tucked away in the bay. We accommodate five volunteers here at a time. For volunteers coming to stay less than a month you would be housed at our friends tent lodge, palmartentlodge.com, on the beach of Red Frog. If you wish you can split your time up between both locations, but I would need advance notice about your arrival date and preferences. This is close to the community you will volunteer in and off the beaten tourist path of Bocas del Toro.
r
r This is a great experience if you want to volunteer in a primitive community located in a very unique island archipelago and also partake in adventurous and relaxing activities during your free time. There is an in country guide throughout your stay in Bocas del Toro and we will pick you up from either the airport or where the mainland water taxi drops your off in Bocas Town. Visit, http://giveandsurf.org/join-the-crew/, to learn more about your travel options and what is included in your stay. There are so many amazing and adventurous things to do when your here so we can accommodate providing you transportation to all the wondering places to see. From hiking through the jungle to taking daily excursion to deserted islands and beaches, Bocas del Toro is full of adventure. Of course if you are interested in learning to surf this activity is provided daily and part of your costs for volunteering.
