Veterans Home Holiday Cheer

November 12th, 2013

Location: 11500 Nimitz Ave. Los Angeles CA 90049
Duration: Multiple Days
First Day : Nov 12, 2013
Last Day: Dec 28, 2013

The facility is very large (eventually holds up to 400 residents). We have more than doubled in size in the last few years and need the student volunteers to help decorate for the winter holidays including Hannukah and Christmas. We have decorations but need the manpower and creativity of these younger volunteers. They will also be able to work side by side with our veterans allowing for inter-generational project. Residents need to feel part of the community. If time allows, a holiday dance, partially organized by the volunteers would be the last request. Volunteers can chat with residents at the mealtime. Many of our residents have very little outside family or friends. Having the enthusiasm and optimism of UCLA volunteers will enlighten their day and holidays. Some of our Veterans have previously been homeless, others have lived in isolated situations. These are really good people that deserve some holiday cheer. May need to bring a few things such as musical instrument is they want to play for our residents. We can use a little help with the decorations and publicity for residents (invitations, flyers, party decorations) but we do have plenty of holiday decorations.
