DrainWatch: Take Back Your Waterways L.A.!
r
r Water Sampling & Urban Trash Survey
r
r Our DrainWatch program gives volunteers the opportunity to survey and track the pollution that spills into our waterways, flows to our beaches, kills aquatic life, and threatens public health. Volunteers will receive hands-on field and lab experience monitoring and testing the water quality at local creeks and beaches. The data gathered contributes to the enforcement of environmental regulations and policies that help to protect L.A. County’s waterways into the future. Volunteers will also learn firsthand the impacts of urban runoff, and help to educate others.
r
r Special Project: Urban River Trash Survey
r Urban rivers provide critical open space, recreational opportunities, and habitat for native plants and animals. The Urban River Trash Survey Project works to monitor and identify sources of pollution that are adversely impacting our rivers and oceans. Volunteers are trained in the Rapid Trash Assessment methodology and collect data to characterize, quantify and identify sources of trash. The data collected by Urban River Trash Survey volunteers informs city management and local policies (like the plastic bag ban), and enforces and strengthens the clean water regulations we need to reduce the amount of plastic and trash debris that ends up on our beaches and in our waters.
