We are looking for students or recent graduates interested in teaching, youth work, and/or the non-profit sector to intern with our summer program.
We offer a summer camp to approximately 70 middle school aged students in central LA each year. These youth are from low income communities, and may not be able to afford alternative summer programming. The camp meets this need by providing science, technology, engineering, arts, and leadership development education completely for free. It also provides our youth with adult mentorship and skill building opportunities, and a positive space to stay involved during the summer.
Interns will be paired with staff members, who will be responsible for guiding a group of 12 youth through the camp. Activities will include field trips, mural making, film, science projects, leadership education, etc. This is an ideal opportunity for education majors, or anyone looking to work with youth or children in the future.
The camp is June 22nd – July 24th, Monday – Thursday from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM and optional Friday field trips. Interns must be available for training the week of the 15th – 19th of June as well.
We are looking for individuals with experience working with youth, who are quick learners, flexible, and able to stay energetic and positive during long days. Interns should be at least 18 years of age, bilingual individuals and individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. No funding for housing or transportation is provided.
Please fill out our standard volunteer application. It can be found at www.bresee.org in our “Get Involved” section. Just mark on it that you are interested in the internship.
