Covenant Mentor (Thursdays, 5-6pm) – Must commit to FULL school year
The Need: Our students face the challenges of attending poor schools, gang crime, peer pressure and poverty. Having just one positive mentor can help kids overcome all of these risk factors and successfully transition into the next phase of their lives. Mentors are critical to showing kids their full potential and encouraging them to live up to it.
The Role: Covenant Group is our small group mentoring program. Each week, you will have the opportunity to mentor 3-5 middle school or high school students. You will lead discussions (using a provided lesson plan) about parents, grades, peer pressure, etc. You will also lead weekly small group icebreakers and participate with your mentees in monthly large group icebreakers. This is a great opportunity to build strong, meaningful relationships with a small group of kids.
The Pre-requisites: Covenant Group leaders must be extremely consistent and commit to volunteering for the full school year. Leaders must be comfortable mentoring independently, with minimal supervision, and love working with kids. Must be positive and encouraging. This is in addition to the general pre-requisites listed above.
