The Jules and Doris Stein UCLA Support Group is a broad-based volunteer network created to support the faculty, staff and outreach programs of the UCLA Stein Eye Institute… .helping to provide the best possible vision for every person.
We are recruiting volunteers to assist The Support Group Preschool Vision Screening (PSVS) program. Volunteers will perform vision screenings at various public and private preschools to identify possible refractive errors or eye muscle disorder. The preschools we visit are in the Westside, Santa Monica and parts of the San Fernando Valley. Early detection of these treatable conditions can avoid countless school-age problems. The vision screenings could last approximate two-four hours on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings. No experience required. A brief training provided at the school site or new volunteers will work with a trained volunteer. Desired candidates must enjoy working with children ages 3 to 4 years of age. Minimum time requirement commitment is four vision screenings per season. The season starts after Labor Day weekend to December’s holidays. Volunteers provide their transportation or carpooling is available upon request from UCLA Stein Eye Institute.
Thank you for your interest in vision health!
We provided ample time for the volunteers to schedule the vision screenings within their busy schedule. A month out an email volunteer recruitment announcement sent for sign-up, and after that, a friendly reminder will be sent a week before the event. The majority of the vision screenings are on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings - 8:30 - Noon. We ask for a time commitment of four vision screenings between September - December.
