RSVP: Orientation to be a Reading Partner
Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit dedicated to improving students’ reading skills. We work in Title I elementary schools to support students from low income communities who are reading 6 months to 2.5 years below grade-level. We recruit and train community volunteers to work one-on-one with students for at least an hour a week, following a structured, research-based curriculum.
WHAT: Join us for a one-stop shop orientation event to become a Reading Partners volunteer! Attendees will get a live scan done – free of charge, an orientation & can be scheduled to start volunteering on the spot!
WHY: Becoming a volunteer Reading Partner gives you the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience, and become a mentor, friend, and positive role model in the life of a child.

REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be 55 +, must be registered as an RSVP member through our website at www.laworks.com.
SKILLS: child development, literary/reading, teaching/instruction, english as a second language, language (ESL) tutoring.
ACCESSIBILITY: There are no stairs at this site so it is very accessible to everyone.
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS: Parking is available in the parking lot off of Olympic Boulevard as well as on the streets surrounding. If street parking, please check the street signs for any time restrictions as there is street sweeping and two hour parking. If taking public transportation, we are located .1 miles from the La Brea/Olympic stop on the 728 bus line and 212/312 bus line.
RSVP: This project is of LA Works’ RSVP program which is designed to mobilize volunteers who are age 55 + in service to the community. LA Works is a nonprofit, volunteer action center that creates and implements hands – on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
