Dr. Timothy Fong, M.D., the Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and the co-director of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program is looking for TWO responsible students who will be trained to assist in the following:
1. Conduct screening and assessment visits for participants recruited in two separate ongoing research protocols. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Administering questionnaires
• Discussing the Informed Consent Form with the participant.
• Interviewing the participants for eligibility to participate by collecting their background information, medication/psychiatric history, and gambling behavior.
• Screening for mental health disorders by using the SCID (Structured Clinical Interview for Diagnosing Mental Health Disorders), and the MINI (Mini-International Psychiatric Interview).
• Administering Neurocognitive Tasks that measure IQ.
• Recording simple vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight).
2. Clerical duties such as:
• Answering the phone/voicemail
• Explaining the study protocol to callers potentially interested in participating.
• Organizing/filing study materials.
3. Assistance in various stages of research projects such as:
• Data entry
• Literature review
• Revising/editing manuscripts
This is a great opportunity for pre-med psychiatry and pre-doctoral psychology students interested in gaining both clinical and research experience, obtaining a letter of reference and possible authorship in a peer-reviewed journal. We are looking for someone who can commit their time for a minimum of 2 quarters and 10 hours a week.
