One Bus, One Cause: LA River School (One America Day of Service)

March 1st, 2014

Duration: Single Day
Date: Mar 1, 2014

As the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, Points of Light is teaming up with JPMorgan Chase & Co. for the One America tour, a year-long, multi-city campaign that will bring together powerful voices in politics, sports, and entertainment with the goal of inspiring millions to unite in service to their communities. The tour – which kicked off in July 2013 in Columbus, Ohio – includes local service events and dialogue in eight cities across the U.S.: Columbus, New York, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.
r One America is coming to Los Angeles on Saturday, March 1 with a focus to give people the opportunity to learn, share, act and give. This project will focus on creating a greener, cleaner, and healthier community by revitalizing a portion of the LA River in the Elysian Valley community. Over 600 volunteers will give their time and voice in support of community action, with a focus on environmental revitalization, and diverse stakeholders will demonstrate the positive impact people can have, in spite of their differences. Join us as we impact the LA River by conducting a revitalization project with the LA River Revitalization Corporation and LA Works.
r Volunteers will get up early to green and beautify the Rio Vista street end of the Elysian Valley community located along the LA River. Volunteer activities include removing fencing, weeding and trash pick-up, graffiti clean-up, painting murals, installing benches, planting trees and native plants, improving skate parks, and more. Wear some clothes you won’t mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes, and sun protection. For additional ideas, visit What To Wear & Bring To A Service Project. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, transportation, and all needed supplies will be provided; all you need is an open mind and willing-to-get-dirty hands!
