The California Legislature will host the NCSL Legislative Summit in Los Angeles, July 30-August 2, 2018. This major event brings together legislators, legislative staff, private sector, and international delegates from across the country and around the world. The average attendance of the Legislative Summit is 6,000 people and includes an exhibition with approximately 250 vendors. Delegates will attend more than 100 sessions at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Senator Mitchell is a member of the NCSL Executive Committee and a member of UCLA’s Legislative Delegation. Since assuming office in 2010, Senator Mitchell has enjoyed a strong working relationship with our campus and our student volunteers have played an instrumental role in the success of her annual event, Christmas in July.
The need for volunteers:
• Training for volunteers is conducted in conjunction with NCSL, volunteers are provided with an onsite briefing and work with NCSL staff in each designated volunteer role.
• Each volunteer is requested to volunteer a minimum of 2-3 shifts, if fewer volunteers are available they would need to work additional shifts. A typical volunteer shift is 4-5 hours.
• Volunteers will be able to attend NCSL sessions for professional development purposes outside of volunteer hours at no charge.
• Every year there are approximately 100-125 volunteers from the host state to assist in the following areas:
Volunteers will assist at LA Live and Paramount Theater during the conference. Volunteers will assist guests throughout the events by providing directions and maps, directing traffic, controlling crowds and checking badges.
Convention Center Ambassadors
Ambassadors are responsible for greeting delegates, providing information, and directing crowds as necessary throughout the meeting. Ambassadors will be located near entrances, escalators, and central hallways to ensure a smooth flow from place to place. Ambassadors will assist with meeting counts and delivering signage.
Greet and assist delegates, exhibitors, guests and other convention attendees at registration. Assist attendees with registration kiosks and printing badges and handing out badge holders and materials.
Hotel Hospitality and Transportation
Hotel and transportation volunteers will greet and direct guests to hotel shuttles and provide walking directions to the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Host Volunteer Office
Volunteers staffing this office, check volunteers in for their shifts and assist where needed throughout the meeting.
