Background
The California Legislature will host the NCSL Legislative Summit in Los Angeles, July 30-August 2, 2018. This major event brings together legislators, legislative staff, private sector, and international delegates from across the country and around the world. The average attendance of the Legislative Summit is 6,000 people and includes an exhibition with approximately 250 vendors. Delegates will attend more than 100 sessions at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Senator Mitchell is a member of the NCSL Executive Committee and a member of UCLA’s Legislative Delegation. Since assuming office in 2010, Senator Mitchell has enjoyed a strong working relationship with our campus and our student volunteers have played an instrumental role in the success of her annual event, Christmas in July.
The need for volunteers:
• Training for volunteers is conducted in conjunction with NCSL, volunteers are provided with an onsite briefing and work with NCSL staff in each designated volunteer role.
• Each volunteer is requested to volunteer a minimum of 2-3 shifts, if fewer volunteers are available they would need to work additional shifts. A typical volunteer shift is 4-5 hours.
• Volunteers will be able to attend NCSL sessions for professional development purposes outside of volunteer hours at no charge.
• Every year there are approximately 100-125 volunteers from the host state to assist in the following areas:
