Free Arts for Abused Children programs inspire hope in the lives of children who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness through innovative creative arts programs and positive interactions with caring adult volunteers.
The Weekly Volunteer Program is designed to nurture the self-esteem of children, allowing them to find their creative voice in weekly sessions that take place over the course of 8-12 consecutive weeks at one of our 40 partner agencies. At the end of the program, children have had the opportunity to foster a relationship with a consistent adult role model and develop a better sense of self through experiencing the creative process.
For about 1.5 hours per week, 10 to 15 kids interact with the same dedicated volunteer week after week. Volunteers lead programs in a variety of art mediums focused on varying themes. With the support of a Free Arts Staffer, volunteers are given the resources and flexibility to create a program plan based on their expertise and the children’s interests. Possible themes include photography, painting and drama.
Free Arts volunteers must be 18 years or older and able to provide their own transportation to events. In order to ensure our programs are the highest quality possible, volunteers must first submit an application and attend a Free Arts New Volunteer Orientation.
