MDA The Fill the Boot

The Fill the Boot is on May 15,16, and 17. You can volunteer for all three days or just one. We need 45 Volunteers for each day of the event. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and be able to commit to a full day. Please call Diane Martine to sign up to become a volunteer (310) 390-6802.

All Fill the Boot volunteers must complete a pre-event training with MDA Staff prior to the event. Contact MDA Los Angeles for more information. MDA will provide you with an event binder that will contain event instructions, bank instructions, event permits, etc. You will also be given an MDA staff contact for the day of the event should you have questions.

Listed are the basic responsibilities of each volunteer:

•Arriving at the local fire station to gather supplies

•Going to the designated intersection to set up

•Hanging posters up and down all streets leading to your intersection and taking them down at the end of the day

•Making sure all firefighters and other volunteers sign in – in order to receive a t-shirt. Names must be legible and complete information must be taken down.

•Distributing water to the firefighters throughout the day*

•Picking up lunch for the firefighters*

•At the end of the Fill the Boot, packing up supplies and making sure they are stored in the proper fire station for the next day’s use

•Escorting collected money (with 1 other person) to the designated counting location.

•Counting funds with firefighters

•Converting all coin at nearest COINSTAR location

•Prepare deposit slips and depositing funds at nearest Bank of America
