An application can be obtained online, but the applicant must schedule an interview at a literacy center. The applicant will be scheduled for online training during the interview. Materials are provided free of charge to both tutor volunteer and student. Literacy centers have an on site coordinator to interview applicants.
Volunteers are interviewed at one of the LAPL's Literacy Center. They are registered for training during the interview. Training is online and takes approximately 6 hours. Once the tutor volunteer is trained they are matched with a student who has similar time availability to that of the tutor. This is a six month commitment working a minimum of 2 hours a week. It is a program for adults over the age of 18.
