Project Description: Let’s Read is one of L.A. Works’ long-time signature volunteer programs that offers tutoring in mostly reading, but also focuses on writing and other needed skills to children with limited access to educational resources.
Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: Each session strives to develop a one-on-one approach with volunteer and student to make for a more effective learning environment. Volunteers will work with students on areas that need most improvement, providing them with encouragement and clear goals for improvement. The project also incorporates a group activity to create a supportive, fun, team setting. Volunteers do not need any prior teaching experience.
L.A. Works requires all volunteers on the premises to clear a Background Check. The background check provided by LexisNexis costs $30 of which L.A. Works will contribute $5 towards the processing costs, as our resources allow. Please allow up to one week for processing. We will inform you of your clearance upon completion of the screening process.
If you would like to participate in this program, please complete the Authorization Form and submit your payment of $25 by credit card or check. Send checks to: L.A. Works, Attn: Becca Bloom, 570 West Ave. 26, Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90065.
