If any of you are looking for a great, really flexible volunteer opportunity for only a few hours a week, the Los Angeles Christian Health Center (LACHC) is looking for a group of students willing to help out with their new EMR (Electronic Medical Record) Patient Portal project at their free Joshua House Clinic on Skid Row. The project involves helping homeless patients at the Joshua House Clinic to set up a patient account with their new EMR system, and doing outreach and education showing the homeless patients how to use the computers available in the clinic lobby to renew prescriptions, make appointments, and find health information. Its a great project that really helps to empower the homeless on Skid Row to take control of their health care.
r This project involves as much or as little commitment as you are willing to put in. Ideally, LACHC would like to have 1 or 2 students available in their lobby to help their homeless patients for at least a few hours each day of the week. We are hoping to recruit enough volunteers that each student could do a few hours one day a week, and we would be able to cover most of their open hours.
r Be aware that before volunteering with the LACHC, you must have a physical examination conducted within the past six months, a TB test conducted in the past year, and attend a volunteer orientation before starting the project. There is no age limit or any restrictions on who can volunteer. LACHC is a Christian organization but you do not have to be religious yourself (or affiliated with any religious group) to help us out! We welcome everyone and anyone! If you are interested, please contact Ashley Slight at the email address listed above.
Weekly - shifts of 2 - 4 hours for one to two days a week, Monday through Friday, depending on how much you would like to be involved with the project.
