Our Summer Institutes are 4-day professional development training sessions for educators in the LA area and beyond (Monday, June 22nd is our set-up day). Age 16+ are welcome to volunteer.

Growing Educators is a professional development organization based in Los Angeles that offers custom PD programs for administration, teachers, and parents. We follow a balanced literacy and writing workshop approach with a commitment to help every student excel.
GROWEducators is a Los Angeles based non-profit that organizes the Planting Wonders summer camp at Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary School. Planting Wonders provides an experience-based, arts and inquiry, afternoon enrichment program that offers kids a choice in their learning experience. Our philosophies of balanced literacy and instilling wonder serve to accentuate the brilliance all children already possess.
Position Title: Summer Institute Volunteer
Purpose: The position of Summer Institute Volunteer serves as support for the Growing Educators event staff. Volunteers are representatives of the organization to the educators that attend our Summer Institutes.
Location: Harry Bridges Span School – 1235 Broad Ave, Wilmington, CA 90744
Key Responsibilities:
• Volunteer will be a point of contact between event participants and staff
• Greets guests and directs them to session, event locations, and/or appropriate contact
• Answers questions about event details
• Assists with set-up and breakdown of event
• Prepares event materials including packets, classroom supplies, signs, and tables
• May help registrants check-in or presenter as a session assistant
• Minor cleaning tasks (wiping tables and tidying rooms after a session)
• May require lifting of up to 15 lbs
• Other duties as assigned
Responsible to: Michelle Mikolajczyk, Project Manager
Length of Appointment: The Summer Institute Volunteer is assigned every day for a period of one week.
Time Commitment*:
• June 22, 2015 for 3 ½ hours (from 8:30 A.M. to 12 P.M.)
• June 23, 2015 – June 26, 2015 for 7 ½ hours (from 7:15 A.M. to 2:45 P.M.)
• OR a prearranged schedule of hours in these sets.
*Includes breaks, light breakfast, and lunch.
Qualifications: Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability.
Support: Training for this position will be provided. In addition, Project Manager will be available for questions and assistance.
Dress Code: Casual (Jeans and a T-shirt are ok – T-shirt will be provided on the first day); Please wear comfortable shoes, preferably closed-toed (flip flops are discouraged).
Benefits of Position: All volunteers will receive a letter of hours served, as well as a t-shirt, light breakfast, and lunch. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in special event planning.
