The Need: Students have fewer opportunities to do art, music, technology, sports etc. in school due to budget cuts. We are thrilled to be able to provide students access to these classes to help them grow, foster their creativity and talent, and expose them to new experiences. With students at various levels, our workshop instructors need assistants to help them create a meaningful experience for all participants.
The Role: Workshop assistants will serve in a variety of roles depending on the workshop. This might include demonstrating how to do an activity, assisting students who are struggling with the activity, modeling appropriate behavior, helping students maintain focus, and general supervision of the class. Volunteer may be encouraged to lead the workshop, with the assistance of the primary instructor. Assistants may be expected to arrive a few minutes early or stay a few minutes late to prepare for the lesson. This will also be an opportunity to improve your teaching skills while developing strong relationships with youth.
The Pre-requisites: Must love working with and inspiring creativity in youth, clearly give basic instructions to students clearly, and work collaboratively with the workshop instructor. Experience related to the workshop topic is a must. This is in addition to the general pre-requisites listed above. The following workshops have additional prerequisites:
Computer Assistant – Must have experience using Mac computers and a basic understanding of the
For Graphic Design classes, must have experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign software, and have prior knowledge of basic elements of design, some typography background.
