Global March for Elephants, Rhinos & Lions – Los Angeles

October 4th, 2014

Location: La Brea Tar Pits Park at 5801 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90036
Duration: Single Day
Date: Oct 4, 2014

On Saturday, October 4th, Los Angeles joins 120 cities around the world for the Global March for Elephants, Rhinos & Lions (GMFER), the biggest international event ever held to save our planet’s vanishing wildlife. The global march, a grassroots effort that has grown to tens of thousands of supporters worldwide, aims to increase awareness of the crisis facing elephant, rhino, and lion populations that are being killed in record numbers and face extinction as their ivory, horns, and body parts are harvested for illegal wildlife trafficking and to fund terrorism.
r
r Volunteers are needed to carry posters and banners, hand out flyers, and to participate in the march.
r
r Speakers will include conservation biologist and award-winning broadcaster, Dr. Reese Halter, and Tippi Hedren, Founder and President of the ROAR Foundation and Shambala Preserve.
r
r GMFER organizers hope the event will help to reduce demand for endangered species “products” and will be working for governments to ban all commercial trading and trafficking of endangered wildlife.
r
r The Los Angeles GMFER is focused on educating the public. Knowledgeable “Animal Ambassadors” from various NGO’s will be available to talk about the animals under threat and how to help them. African drummers and the Agape Youth Choir will perform. Poster making and face painting for children will be offered.
r
r 11:00 a.m.: Demonstrators will gather; people are invited to march with business, student, or group banners and signs showing their support for saving these endangered animals.
r
r 12:00 p.m.: March will begin and will proceed down Wilshire Blvd. (.7 miles) to the South African Consulate and then will return to the La Brea Tar Pits Park about 1 p.m.
r
r 1:00 p.m.: Rally will begin.
