For the last six years, Foster Care Counts and our volunteers have hosted foster families for a day of food, games, family, and celebration, and each year is more fun than the last. On Sunday, May 10th, our hundreds of volunteers will once again make Foster Mother’s Day memorable for the 2,000 foster parents and children invited to take part in a special event in their honor. Here’s a taste of what last year offered:
r A Kids’ area filled with carnival games, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, magicians, balloon artists, face painting, and more. Young children enjoyed a special storytelling area hosted by Better with Books, which also gave young readers books and backpacks to take home.
r Guests were treated to a special clothing boutique that gave them the opportunity to take home new and gently used clothing for themselves and their families.
r Visitors to the spa enjoyed pampering with manicures, hair styling by Paul Mitchell stylists and makeup sessions from Jouer Cosmetics. All guests received a spa gift bag with beauty products donated by partners and sponsors.
r Families had family portraits taken, framed and decorated to preserve the memories of this special day.
r Kellee McQuinn, who the LA Times nicknamed “the Pied Piper with a Boom Box” and who is the founder of KidTribe, an international children’s fitness program that has served over 3.5 million kids in thousands of schools since 2002, graced us as our energetic emcee for the day.
r The event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our corporate partners:
r Nestle, Wolfgang Puck Catering, Paul Mitchell, Mission School Transportation, J A-Ru Toys, Jouer Cosmetics, Snak King, Longmi Lashes, Sprinkles, Susie Cakes, Carters Inc, and KidTribe.
Either all day Saturday and/or Sunday or various shifts both days.
