Fall is upon all Angelenos and as the days get shorter, so too, does the time we have with the Class of 2015. Our seniors are presently hard at work preparing their college applications to meet upcoming submission dates and dreaming of their futures. A large part of the application process is the personal statement each writes that will set them apart from the many thousands of applicants vying for limited seats in the most prestigious universities across California. While it is a stressful endeavor, it is an opportunity to reflect on where they have been and where their imaginations might take them.
r On Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 6:30 pm East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy (ELRA) and East Los Angeles Performing Arts Magnet (ELPAM) will be hosting our first Annual Personal Statement Night. The purpose of this event is to help our seniors with their college personal statements. In Order for the Personal Statement Night to be successful, we are recruiting professionals willing to give seniors feedback on their essays. A brief 30 minute training prior to the workshop will be provided. A background in education is not necessary to participate—just willingness to work with the next generation of brilliant young agents of social change.
r We look forward to welcoming our community partners to what we hope will become a tradition here at Torres High School
Starting at 6:30pm with a 30 minute training half an hour prior to the event.
