Duration: Single Day
Date: Oct 20, 2018 • 7AM - 2PM
Our mission is to make college a reality for students growing up in educationally and economically underresourced communities. We empower students through education, transforming individual lives, and creating a ripple effect through the entire community.
Time Details
Volunteer Opportunities:
Registration & Setup (7:30am -10am) 25 Needed
We know it’s early, but you can play a key role in “setting the stage” for hundreds of students who’ll learn about college for the first time at Destination College. If you don’t mind lifting boxes and getting your hands dirty, we could really use your help. After setting up, volunteers will transition to helping with registration. Coffee will be provided, of course!
Breakfast Logistics (8:00am - 10:00am) 10 Needed
High school students need fuel in order to focus! We are seeking friendly volunteers to keep our refreshment tables stocked and make sure students are fueled up and ready to start learning about their college future.
Directional and Welcome Ambassadors (8:00am - 9:30am) 5 Needed
We’re looking for enthusiastic greeters to make sure students feel welcomed when they are coming off the bus and providing a registration rundown for the group before sending them to check-in. If you are a “people person”, this is the volunteer opportunity for you. You’ll be the first person students and parents see will when they arrive on campus!
Chaperones (9:00am - 1:00pm) 40-50 Needed
Here’s your chance to get to know some high school student participants and see how they react to the college information they’re taking in throughout the day at Destination College. Working in a team of 4-5 volunteer chaperons, you’ll get to lead and assist in a few fun icebreakers with your student group, and go along with students to their workshops.
*Note: a chaperone orientation will be conducted at 8:30am near registration
College Fair and Lunchtime Logistics (11:30am - 2:00pm) 10 Needed
Love learning about different colleges and universities? We are seeking friendly volunteers to assist dozens of college representatives from across the country as they get settled in to their tables and start talking to students. Occasionally, college reps will need help transporting boxes of informational materials from their car to our college fair site. We’ll also need some extra hands to help monitor and control what will be a very long lunch line!
