The Zimmer Children’s Museum is all about cultivating a culture and community of creativity, generosity, and global awareness! We aim to guide children and youth to recognize injustice, and possibility within their communities and beyond, and to take meaningful, collaborative and collective action to create a better future. Our museum offers 10,000 square feet of discovery-based exhibits and more than 20 classes and public programs each week in art, music & movement, cross-cultural exchange, school readiness, early childhood education and five foreign languages.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: We have various types of volunteer roles that need to be filled at the museum (volunteer descriptions can be found here: https://www.zimmermuseum.org/pdfs/Volunteer%20Types_2015.pdf). All of the volunteer positions help out the museum in its daily functions/efforts to provide an arts based education and cultural awareness to children, youth, and their families.
Time Commitment: Must commit to 2 hour shifts at least once per month, 10AM – 4PM M-F, 12PM – 4PM Sun.
Requirements: All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application (link: https://www.zimmermuseum.org/volunteer.html) , complete a background check, and go through an interview process.
Clothing policy for volunteers: Volunteers must wear the Zimmer Children’s Museum volunteer t-shirt when working. Volunteers are not allowed to wear tight fitting clothing. Skirts and shorts must be at least mid-thigh when seated. No visible rips or tears in clothing. Closed toe shoes are required when working on the museum floor.
Benefits: Volunteers get the chance to gain hands-on experience working with young children in an informal educational arts-integrated setting. They will also get a chance to help develop curriculum, facilitate activities, and learn more about arts and early childhood education. Additionally they get to see the day-to-day functions of a museum.
Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts anywhere between 10AM - 5PM.
