Hello! We are the Los Angeles chapter of Camions of Care (camionsofcare.org), a non-profit group that donates menstrual hygiene supplies to women in local shelters, as well as promote youth engagement to advocate for women’s health and eliminate the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Every month, we donate care packages of tampons, pads and liners to women’s shelters. We currently provide for Los Angeles House of Ruth and the Good Shepherd Shelter, both of which serve women who are homeless, abused, or in job transition. Feminine hygiene products are the most-needed items in shelters, and the least donated.
We need to raise $150 each month to create at least 64 feminine hygiene kits — that’s 512 tampons, 320 pads and 320 liners! We are currently seeking regular, monthly volunteers to help us reach our monthly goals and beyond. Please consider the several ways you can help:
1) JOIN the chapter: Officially join our chapter with a $2 yearly membership fee.
2) FUNDRAISE & DONATE: Help us meet our monthly goal by spreading the word about Camions of Care and requesting donations on a personal level, as well as from businesses or schools.
3) EVENTS: Attend events or help plan events, such as school-wide tampon/pad donation drives, bake sales, raffles, etc. Each month, we hold a feminine hygiene product assembly party (or “period party”) to put together the kits, put them in boxes and get them ready for delivery.
4) SOCIAL MEDIA: We are currently looking for students who are comfortable with social media and spreading awareness about our organization and events. Our chapter also receives requests to visit campuses to talk about what we do, so we are also seeking a spokesperson.
