Boarding House Mentors (BHM) is a non-profit volunteer youth surfing organization established in 2002 to transform the lives of underserved youth through participation in surfing. To fulfill our mission, BHM creates a safe and supportive youth and mentor community environment, inspiring among the youth, positive self-image, confidence, healthy lifestyles and encouraging respect for the community and the ocean environment.
Please see more information and sign up to volunteer at www.passthestoke.org.
This beach activity is located at Will Rogers State Beach and occurs every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm beginning July 9th with a final Sunday activity at Will rogers State Beach on August 13th. There is a volunteer orientation on Saturday July 8.
There is no minimum or maximum number of Sundays required of volunteers, however the youth and the program are most successful if volunteers can serve a minimum of three Sundays of the six Sundays available.
We offer community service credit.
We provide volunteers free breakfast and lunch and we provide volunteers with free surf swag for attending three or more Sunday events.
Volunteers do not need to know how to surf, but some ocean experience is helpful.
