Bike & Build

October 15th, 2014

Duration: Multiple Days
First Day : Oct 15, 2014
Last Day: Aug 15, 2015

Bike & Build engages young adults aged 18-25 (up through 28 for Trip Leaders) in cross-country cycling trips to raise money and awareness for affordable housing organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, and other small nonprofits. Riders pedal across the United States by bike, stopping every 4 or 5 days to volunteer with these orgs. At the end of the summer, riders will grant the dollars they’ve raised to these same orgs.
r You do not need biking or building experience prior to signing up. Our trips begin in May and June of each year (see our website,, for this year’s route dates) and last about 10-11 weeks, ending in late July or throughout August. Riders will complete the trip on one of our 8 cross-country teams, made of 32 individuals from all over the United States.
r Pre-trip, riders will fundraise $4,500, to be donated affordable housing organizations chosen by your team. They will also train on the bike and complete sweat equity to prepare for the trip.
r A cool perk? Bike & Build will provide all participants with a road bike to complete the trip. Once you dip your front tire in the Pacific Ocean at the end of the summer, the bike is yours to keep.
r Timeframe: Applications for Trip Leaders go online in mid-October, and apps for riders go up in early November. You’ll spend the next six months preparing, and then trips pedal through the summer.
