Become a Friend to a Lonely Senior

Give and receive the gift of Friendship! A simple visit can make a significant impact on reducing loneliness and providing vital social interaction for a frail senior or disabled adult. Friendly Visitor’s can schedule these appointments monthly or weekly, depending on availability.
r Requirements:
r · 18 years of age or older
r · Successfully pass background check
r · One year minimum commitment to program
r · Completion of Friendly Visitor training
r Duties:
r · Volunteer will schedule regular visits or calls with the client
r · Volunteer will keep track of hours spent with their client
r · Volunteer will report monthly hours to VAA staff
r · Volunteer will contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any concerns, problems or questions related to the client’s well-being
r Qualifications:
r Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills
r Exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information
r Exhibit reliability and dependability
r Possess a passion to serve frail and isolated senior and disabled adults
r Additional Training:
r Volunteers are encouraged to attend ongoing Networking and Training meetings organized by VAA staff

Time Details

Volunteer Action for Aging (VAA) recommends a one hour in person visit per week. The dates and times of the visits will be dependent on the Volunteer’s and Senior’s schedule.
