Awamaki U.S. is a small non-profit organization dedicated to promoting development and sustainable tourism in Ollantaytambo, Peru. Awamaki U.S. places volunteers and runs programs in the areas of education and health. As a health volunteer there are opportunities to have a clinical placement, work with disabled individuals, or help in health education. Awamaki U.S. works closely with its local partner organization, Awamaki, to preserve Quechua weaving and culture, and to expand sustainable economic opportunities to indigenous communities, specifically through its weaving cooperative. Awamaki Lab is a four-month fashion design residency that gives young designers to opportunity to develop a capsule collection in partnership with Awamaki and its weavers’ association.
r Volunteers are required to fill out an application form which can be found on awamaki.org.
r Basic Spanish is strongly preferred but not required.
r A minimum of a month is required.
