Volunteers help to teach a culturally based, art education program that is currently provided to approximately 100 third-grade students at one Title 1 Los Angeles area elementary school. Over a period of 14 weeks, NCJW/LA volunteer art educators help children explore cutural traditions through art, music, cultural artifacts, slides, discussions and related hands-on art activities. Each lesson is focused around a different culture/region and curriculum is provided. The ABC program encourages students to celebrate the rich diversity and traditions of the people of Los Angeles through interactive lessons and cultural art programs from around the world.
r
r Volunteers do not need to have a strong art or teaching background but they should possess an interest in helping children to understand cultural differences and exploration of different cultures.
