What is Fill the Boot?
More than 100,000 fire fighters in hometowns across America take to the streets each
year through Fill the Boot events to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy live
longer and grow stronger.
Each day, everyday freedoms like walking, hugging, playing and even breathing are
taken away from kids and adults in our community by muscular dystrophy, ALS and
related muscle-debilitating diseases.
For more than 60 years, our nation’s heroes have been collecting donations — one
dollar at a time in their boots — from generous motorists, shoppers and neighbors to
bring strength, independence and life to families living with muscle-debilitating diseases.
The spirited tradition of the Fill the Boot program is a collaboration between the Muscular
Dystrophy Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). In its
first year in 1953, fire fighters in Boston raised $5,000 for MDA. Last year, over $25
million was raised by fire fighters at more than 2,000 Fill the Boot events.
Every dollar raised helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund groundbreaking
research across diseases, care for kids and adults from day one and empower families
with services and support in hometowns across America.
MDA is need of volunteers to help Fill the Boot for the annual 2016 Fill the Boot event that will happen on September 9th, 10th and 11th. This will include:
