The Volunteer Center took over Bruin Plaza on Monday, April 24 to celebrate service in honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week! Swag, stickers, and candy were handed out to thank volunteers for their dedication and hard work during the school year. The Center’s staff was joined by the Fellows, the Student Committee of Project SPELL, and Social Media and Marketing Interns.
The Volunteer Center Fellows created gift baskets filled with sweet treats and a colorful thank you card to send to campus partners. Starting Tuesday afternoon, the Fellows and Volunteer Center staff delivered thoughtful baskets to various campus departments and student organizations to show their appreciation for their help with service projects throughout the year.
To end the week, the Center and the Fellows celebrated volunteers and those who actively participated in campus service organizations with a fun picnic in the center of campus at Wilson Plaza. Guests were invited to jump around in a giant carousel-shaped bounce house, pet a pair of sweet mini therapeutic horses, eat some delicious sandwiches and cookies, and grab free UCLA Volunteer Center stickers!
On April 29, UCLA One Bus, One Cause volunteers joined thousands of Angelenos in the Great LA River Cleanup. Covering 51 miles of the LA River, and coordinated by the Friends of the LA River, this effort required thousands of volunteers spread across several locations for each weekend the event took place. Volunteers removed trash from the Golden Shore Marine Reserve in the hopes of attaining a cleaner, safer, LA river habitat. UCLA worked in collaboration with LA 2024, the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid committee, which shared information on future volunteer opportunities with the team!
