Veterans Day is Monday, November 11, and UCLA plans to honor U.S. service members and veterans with a full week of activities. See below for activities both on and off campus, and take this opportunity to say “thank you“ to a veteran in our community!

Veterans Ally Workshop
Monday, November 4, 10-11:30 am, SAC Conference Room #1

Faculty and staff, start the week by attending the Veterans Ally Workshop and learn about military culture, best practices in working with student veterans, and the role that student veterans play in higher education. RSVP to to attend.

Ask a Veteran and High Ground Screening
Tuesday, November 5, 6 – 8:30 pm, Covel Grand Horizon Room, Salon A

ORL’s On-Campus Housing Council (OCHC) is hosting a screening of High Ground, a documentary detailing the experiences of eleven veterans who, upon returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, set out to climb Mount Lobuche, a 20,000 foot peak in the Himalayas, and to heal the emotional and physical wounds of war. Following the screening, a panel including student veterans will answer questions from the audience. A table will be available to write letters for Operation Gratitude.

Hollywood Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon
Wednesday, November 6 – Saturday, November 9, City of Lynwood

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles is seeking volunteers for a four day build-a-thon in honor of Veterans Day. Over 800 volunteers will build seven new homes and repair neighboring homes. Register here, or contact for more information. Veterans at UCLA may register for FREE, so contact for your free access code and additional information.

VRO Open House and Social Hour
Thursday, November 7, 12 – 1 pm, Veterans Resource Office, Student Activities Center B44

Learn about the services provided by the Veterans Resource Office, located within the Bruin Resource Center. Lunch will be served.

UCLA Veterans Day Ceremony
Friday, November 8, 11:30 am, Wilson Plaza

This year’s Veterans Day Ceremony will honor UCLA Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets and midshipmen, as well as UCLA community members who have served in the U.S. military. RSVP by November 6 to and visit for more information. Following the Ceremony, the campus will host a Veterans Resource Fair featuring organizations dedicated to serving our troops and veterans, including a table for writing Operation Gratitude letters.

UCLA Alumni Volunteer Day at Operation Gratitude
Saturday, November 9, 9 am – 12 pm, 17330 Victory Blvd, Van Nuys

Alumni from the San Fernando Valley Network will gather at the Army National Guard armory in Van Nuys to assemble care packages for U.S. troops and veterans. Family members and friends (ages 12 and up) are welcome! Register by November 6 to save your spot.

Operation Gratitude Letter Writing
Multiple Dates and Locations

Each year, in partnership with Operation Gratitude, the UCLA Volunteer Center sends thousands of hand-written letters and care packages to U.S. troops and veterans. Join us for one of the following letter writing sessions around campus leading up to Veterans Day. All materials will be provided by the Volunteer Center.
