’Tis the Season for Giving Back

November 25th, 2014

This week, as you make your shopping lists for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, remember to plan ahead for December 2nd, otherwise known as Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to reflect on how the holiday season can be not just about giving gifts, but also about giving back, whether through your volunteer efforts or by contributing financially to your favorite organizations. Join the worldwide Giving Tuesday movement and help redefine the giving spirit this holiday season.

Bruins, here are some ways you can participate in Giving Tuesday:

  • Make a donation to your favorite nonprofit organization. For more information on supporting the efforts of the UCLA Volunteer Center, which is run entirely on donations and sponsorships, visit
  • Contribute to the campus UCLA Food Drive and UCLA Toy Drive to support families in need.
  • Volunteer! View the Center’s online Volunteer Opportunity Database to search for service events based on your topic of interest.
  • Support and promote the Giving Tuesday movement by documenting your giving on social media. Use the hashtags #unselfie, #givingtuesday, and #bruinsgiveback to connect with Bruins and individuals around the world who are giving back on December 2nd.

In addition to Giving Tuesday, the holiday season brings many opportunities to give back through volunteerism. The Center has compiled a list of Holiday Service Opportunities coming up in November and December. Visit the list to find your winter service inspiration, and invite your family and friends to serve along with you.
