One of the main goals of Volunteer Dayis to inspire participants to create social change by incorporating volunteering and civic engagement into their daily lives. To support this mission, the Center, along with the Community Service Commission (CSC) and UCLA Residential Life, has established ServeFest, a recruiting and outreach event that gathers some of the best service-oriented student organizations UCLA has to offer. ServeFest makes it convenient for first year students to find on-campus organizations with missions that complement their passions.
To keep the momentum of Volunteer Day going, ServeFest will take place as students return to campus after a day of volunteering. “It’s a great way for motivated first-year students to get involved right away,” said Zack Dameron, founder of ServeFest and CSC Commissioner. “Students who attend the event will have the opportunity to connect with student leaders and gain a better understanding of on-campus organizations that focus on a variety of issues ranging from homelessness and hunger to education, and more.” With a wide range of organizations addressing various needs, ServeFest provides participants the opportunity to learn about issues they may not have been aware of and what they can do to help.
To make this event as accessible as possible, this year ServeFest will take place during Bruin Bash’s daytime festival, which takes place before the evening concert. In addition to being an event that is geared toward matching students with philanthropic organizations, ServeFest will provide a space where incoming students can socialize with each other and gain inspiration from student leaders.
The second annual ServeFest will take place on Monday, September 19 from 12:30 to 3 pm at the Intramural Field. For additional information, please contact email@example.com.
