Opportunity Description
Are you looking to make a positive impact in your community? The UCLA Stein Eye Institute—Center for Community Outreach and Policy seeks volunteers for its Fall 2024 Preschool Vision Screening program. Volunteers will be able to conduct vision screenings at local sites, helping identify preschoolers with refractive errors or eye muscle disorders. Early detection of these treatable conditions can prevent numerous school-age problems. Screenings typically last two to four hours on Wednesday or Thursday mornings.

Previous experience is optional; we provide informal training on-site or through partnerships with experienced volunteers. We are looking for individuals who enjoy interacting with children as young as three and can commit to a minimum of 20 hours per season. The season will run from mid-September to January, and screenings are typically scheduled weekly on Wednesday or Thursday mornings. We understand the importance of balancing your commitments, so we offer flexibility in scheduling to accommodate your needs. While volunteers are expected to arrange transportation, carpooling options may be available upon request from the UCLA Stein Eye Institute.

We will be exclusively accepting volunteer applications from May 28th to 31st. UCLA Health Sciences Volunteer Services must vet all volunteers.
