Nora Sterry Elementary School operates on principles beyond just providing an excellent education. The faculty makes it their purpose to raise students in an open and fair environment, so each student can grow intellectually and emotionally. Nora Sterry has a long-standing partnership with UCLA – it is one of the TIE-INS schools for UCLA employees to send their children to school. However, Nora Sterry is more than a willing community partner – the school’s close proximity to the university, and its playful and energetic student body, make events entertaining for students, faculty, and volunteers.
“UCLA Play Date at Nora Sterry” will feature volunteers assisting the students at a variety of stations, ranging from sports to arts and crafts. There will be four stations that each grade rotates through: creativity, endurance, logic, and do-your-best station. Each station will have games, crafts, and/or activities that relate to each of these test-skills themed stations. As suggested by Nora Sterry’s principal, Ms. Frieda Smith, the “play date” will carry an essence of de-stressing and amusement before end of the year exams, which the students will be taking the weeks following the event.
