Jordan High School is located in the Watts area and is currently undergoing new changes to its campus. The campus is now divided into two schools run by Green Dot Public Schools and the other by Mayor Villaraigosa’s Partnership for Los Angeles Schools. The mission of Jordan High is to provide a rigorous academic environment by keeping classroom size small, while maintaining opportunities for students through extracurricular activities.
UCLA volunteers will provide service that will visually comply with this mission by painting classrooms in an interacting painting project. Volunteers will not only serve Jordan aesthetically, but also as examples to students about the importance of serving the Los Angeles community. UCLA volunteers have previously been to Jordan High on Volunteer Day, and the Alumni Scholars program will bring volunteers back to meet their needs and objectives and to create a strong connection between Jordan, UCLA, and the Los Angeles community.
