In observance of a special day honoring one of the most influential figures in U.S. History, we here at the Volunteer Center are encouraging everyone to follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr. Instead of a day off, make it a “day on” ; participate in a service opportunity driven by the goal to improve the communities that surround us! There are many ways you can participate in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, so here is a list of a few ways you can give back this commemorative holiday!
Big Sunday is an organization dedicated to providing opportunities and projects that unite people to improve lives, build community and give everyone a sense of belonging. There will also be a community breakfast, arts & craft projects, music throughout the morning. T-shirts and transportation from campus will be included.
This MLK Day, help L.A. Works restore and beautify George Carver Middle School, where on average, only 7% of incoming sixth grade students read at grade level. Many of the barriers faced by the students have to do with lack of resources, as well as homelessness, foster housing, and access to food. Help give them an uplifting, positive space to work and grow in by beautifying their campus!
