What is City Year?
City Year is an AmeriCorps program and national nonprofit organization that unites 17-24 year-olds for a year of full-time community service and leadership development, providing young people the skills and opportunities to change the world. City Year corps members are focused on the education and development of youth, serving as mentors for children in partnership with public schools and organizing and running after-school programs and physical service days to revitalize schools and community centers.

What Is A City Year Service Day?
The City Year Civic Engagement team plans monthly community beautification days over the 10 months of service. Over the last four years, City Year Los Angeles has painted murals and blacktop games, has landscaped gardens and constructed benches at schools, parks and community centers. These days of transformative service engage volunteers from all over Los Angeles. Last year alone, City Year Los Angeles engaged over 3000 Los Angeles residents in 15 days of service across the city.

When Can I Volunteer?
This year, City Year is hosting its 5th Annual MLK Service Day where over 1000 volunteers will make a high-needs school a more engaging, educational, and colorful place for children to learn and play.

What’s In It For Me?
Participating in a City Year Service Day is a unique opportunity to give back to the community and physically transform a Los Angeles school. Volunteering is a great leadership and team development opportunity where participants will have the chance to meet other service-minded individuals in the greater Los Angeles community.
