Join the UCLA Volunteer Center Web & Tech Team!

The UCLA Volunteer Center is now accepting applications for student and non-student programmers to be considered for our innovative, fast-paced tech team. We’re looking for web innovators driven by social good, interested in implementing modern technologies in anticipation of the latest trends. We’re looking for creative thinkers and clever initiators who are able to produce content and work together to introduce new features in a timely manner. We’re looking for forward-thinking social media firestarters who look forward to implementing fun and engaging tools that enhance volunteer efforts and create a viral spread of enthusiasm for civic engagement throughout Los Angeles and beyond. Student Web Programmer (Must be a UCLA student to apply)

Job Type: Part-time, 15-20 hrs/week
Location: UCLA

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of the Volunteer Center website (http://volunteer.ucla.edu)
  • Perform coding and programming work in PHP and WordPress
  • Perform database work in MySQL
  • Perform graphic design and stylesheet/CSS implementations
  • Perform social media implementations using Facebook and Twitter APIs

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Web development experience in HTML/CSS/PHP/JavaScript
  • Intermediate knowledge of WordPress as a content management system and ability to construct or modify WordPress themes
  • Ability to follow through on projects and meet deadlines
  • Assist tech team as needed

Senior Web Programmer

Job Type: Part-time, 15-20 hrs/week
Location: UCLA

Responsibilities:

  • Build interactive features for the Volunteer Center website (http://volunteer.ucla.edu)
  • Add/modify PHP, JavaScript, and jQuery functions within the WordPress environment
  • Diagnose and debug PHP, JavaScript, and CSS/Stylesheet issues
  • Maintain WordPress MySQL database and Production, Staging, and Development environments
  • Perform social media implementations using a wide range of social media APIs
  • Collaborate with web development team to strategize and implement innovative approaches and social media tools to promote volunteerism online
  • Communicate with System Administrators to ensure site stability and maximum uptime

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience in building dynamic websites
  • Strong knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, CSS, & HTML (understanding of defensive design and graceful degradation is a plus)
  • At least intermediate knowledge of WordPress as a content management system
  • Ability to add programs and construct/modify WordPress themes
  • Working knowledge of WordPress Admin interface
  • MySQL database experience and working knowledge of WordPress Admin interface
  • Experience and understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions (understanding of mobile highly desired)
  • Ability to learn from and build off of existing code
  • Ability to follow through on projects and meet deadlines
  • Assist tech team as needed
