How can you find summer volunteer opportunities at a location near YOU?

September 8th, 2012

Now that it’s summer, finding volunteer opportunities in your area can be difficult if you do not know where to look. Here is a list of great websites to help you connect to volunteer opportunities that suit your interests wherever you are!

  1. Around campus and LA area

    UCLA Volunteer Center: http://volunteer.ucla.edu/volunteer/search/

If you are here for summer school, the UCLA Volunteer Center is a great resource for Bruins and community members. The Center not only highlights volunteer organizations in the local LA area, but also connects you to student volunteer organizations. The site also equips students with important knowledge such as transportation details and contact information of the event organizers. Of course, the Volunteer Center itself always has great service opportunities as well.

  2. At your desk

    Volunteer Los Angeles (Sparked): http://volunteerlosangeles.sparked.com/

If you’re having a busy summer, Volunteer Los Angeles & Sparked allow you to volunteer from your very own computer wherever you are. On this website, Sparked highlights different projects for non-profits that you can complete and submit online. Sparked is specifically geared for people with specific skillsets such as research, design, marketing, blogging, social media, etc. This is a great opportunity to not only help non-profits but to practice marketable job skills.

  3. Anywhere near you

There are a lot of good websites out there that can help you find a volunteer opportunity in your local neighborhood. Start with #1 above, and here are a few others to help you find one that matches your interests at a convenient location! If you know any other good volunteering resources, feel free to share in the comment box!
