The 8th annual Earth Day Fair was an incredible fun and enlightening experience where I explored and interacted with over 40 on and off-campus organizations that are taking critical steps toward Sustainability. At the fair, I learned how Athens Services – a waste collection and recycling company – turns food waste into fertilizers, how the UCLA Sustainability promotes and educate students, staffs, and faculty about sustainability, and received a planting kit start producing my own organic vegetables. Moreover the fair also hosted a Sustainable Art Competition where I witnessed many creative and beautiful art pieces such as flowers made from spoons. Along with the Art Competition is Green Chief, a live sustainable cooking competition. It was fun and exciting to watch fellow Bruins showing off their cooking skills. The fair also presented many volunteering opportunities for students such as the Garden Mentoring Program with local K-12 students, the UCLA Sustainability volunteer program, Project Green Light with the UCLA Lab School, the UCLA Campus Garden, and so much more. The fair taught me that being green is not just about saving money, it is about saving the environment and saving the world!
