YACS provides library services to infants— children— tweens— and teens. Having grown out of the Young Adult Library Services Association— a division of the American Library Association (ALA)— the group provides UCLA students interested in becoming Young Adult and Children’s librarians with the skills needed for their future careers. YACS also provides library services to young adults in the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Detention Facility in Sylmar— both collecting books for the children and teens to read as well as hosting book talk groups to foster interest in education and hopefully alter the path which these children and teens have taken.
